Grounded Privacy Policy

Grounded is operated by Pair Labs. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using the Grounded iOS app and website.

This policy is intended to be clear and practical. It is not a substitute for legal advice. If you have questions, contact us at teampair.ai@gmail.com.

What Grounded Does

Grounded helps you set daily limits for selected apps and categories using Apple's Screen Time, Family Controls, DeviceActivity, and Managed Settings frameworks. You can use Grounded alone, or you can link with a trusted person in Guardian mode so that extra time and limit edits require partner approval.

Information We Collect

We collect the information needed to create your account, run Guardian accountability features, process subscriptions, send notifications, and provide support.

  • Account information: your Apple account identifier from Sign in with Apple, your Grounded nickname, verified email address if Apple provides it, account creation and update dates, and authentication token metadata.
  • Onboarding and profile settings: your onboarding completion state, notification preferences, and app settings you choose to save.
  • Screen Time limit data: selected app or category display names, encoded Apple Screen Time token data, daily limit values, active or inactive state, schedule details if used, and change history.
  • Guardian data: invite codes, pair identifiers, partner user identifiers and nicknames, pairing status, unpair events, edit-access requests, approvals, denials, response messages, and limit-change summaries visible to the pair.
  • Time-request data: the app display name, requested minutes, request status, approval or denial result, optional message, optional uploaded image, and optional GIPHY media references and attribution.
  • Device and notification data: APNs device tokens and push-notification payload data needed to deliver request, response, pairing, entitlement, and limit-change notifications.
  • Subscription data: subscription status, product identifiers, expiry or renewal information, entitlement state, RevenueCat customer identifiers, and RevenueCat webhook events.
  • Support information: anything you send us by email or another support channel, including your email address and the contents of your message.
  • Diagnostics and security data: server logs, request metadata, error reports, crash or performance details, IP address, device or operating-system details, and abuse-prevention signals.
  • Website data: ordinary hosting logs and browser requests for this static website. The site loads Google Fonts and does not intentionally set analytics cookies.

Screen Time And App Usage

Grounded is designed so detailed Screen Time usage is processed on your device through Apple's frameworks. Pair Labs does not receive the contents of your apps, messages, feeds, browser pages, photos, or private activity inside other apps.

To sync limits and Guardian accountability, Grounded may store selected app or category display names, encoded Screen Time token data, daily limit settings, and change history. Those records help the app match local limits to backend approval and notification flows. They are not a copy of your full Screen Time report.

How We Use Information

  • To create, authenticate, and maintain your Grounded account.
  • To save app limits, sync settings, and support Guardian approvals.
  • To notify a Guardian or partner about time requests, limit edits, pairing, unpairing, entitlement changes, and account deletion events.
  • To process Premium access, free trials, purchase restoration, promotional entitlements, and subscription state.
  • To detect abuse, troubleshoot bugs, improve reliability, secure the service, and comply with legal obligations.
  • To respond to support requests and administrative messages.

What Your Guardian Can See

If you link with a Guardian, both users in the pair may see information needed for accountability: nicknames, pair status, extra-time requests, request outcomes, requested app display names, requested minutes, optional request messages or media while pending, edit-access requests, and daily-limit change history. A Guardian cannot see your screen, your messages, or the contents of your apps through Grounded.

Unpairing or deleting your account may notify your partner and dissolve the pair. Once dissolved, Guardian features stop for that pair.

Optional Messages, Images, And GIPHY

When you request extra time, you may add an optional message, image, or GIPHY GIF. Uploaded images are validated as JPEG or PNG files and limited to 5 MB. Provider GIFs are stored as GIPHY URLs, IDs, previews, and attribution rather than as uploaded files.

Pending request text and media are transient accountability content. When a request is approved or denied, Grounded clears the message and media fields, and uploaded image storage is deleted on a best-effort basis.

Third-Party Services

We use service providers to operate Grounded. These providers process information only as needed for their services and under their own terms and privacy practices.

  • Apple: Sign in with Apple, Screen Time frameworks, APNs push notifications, App Store subscriptions, purchase management, and Apple platform services.
  • RevenueCat: subscription entitlement management, purchase state, webhook delivery, and customer subscription data.
  • GIPHY: GIF search and selection when you choose to attach GIPHY media to a request.
  • Sentry: error reporting, diagnostics, and performance monitoring. We configure diagnostics to avoid sending default personal information where possible and scrub access tokens from captured URLs.
  • Hosting and infrastructure providers: app hosting, database, Redis, object storage, backups, logs, security, DNS, and optional edge protection such as Cloudflare-style rate limiting.
  • Google Fonts and Firebase Hosting or similar static hosting: website font delivery and web hosting.

No Sale Of Personal Information

Grounded does not run third-party advertising in the app and we do not sell your personal information to data brokers. The business model is subscriptions, not ads.

Retention And Deletion

We keep information for as long as needed to provide Grounded, maintain records, secure the service, resolve disputes, and comply with legal obligations.

  • Invite codes expire after 24 hours, and generating a new invite code expires earlier pending codes.
  • Uploaded time-request media is cleared after the request is answered and deleted from object storage on a best-effort basis.
  • When you delete your account, Grounded revokes refresh tokens, dissolves any active pair, clears partner links, expires pending invite codes, and schedules hard deletion after 30 days.
  • After the 30-day deletion window, account records and related app limits, requests, pair records, invite codes, webhook events, and change history are purged from the application database.
  • Backups, provider logs, security records, and financial or legal records may remain for limited operational, legal, security, or compliance periods.

Your Choices

  • You can use Grounded's free solo features without linking a Guardian.
  • You can choose whether to grant Screen Time and notification permissions in iOS settings.
  • You can manage or cancel subscriptions through your Apple ID subscriptions.
  • You can update your nickname, restore purchases, unpair, or delete your account from the app where available.
  • You can contact us to request access, correction, deletion, or help with your data.

Children And Teens

Grounded is not directed to children under 13. If you are under 18, use Grounded only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate consent, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including authentication, encrypted transport, provider security controls, token hashing, validation, and monitoring. No system is perfectly secure, so please use a strong Apple ID, keep your device secure, and contact us if you suspect unauthorised access.

International Processing

Pair Labs may use service providers located in Australia, the United States, Europe, or other regions. By using Grounded, you understand that your information may be processed outside your country of residence, subject to applicable law and provider safeguards.

Changes To This Policy

We may update this policy as Grounded changes. If a change is material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as updating the effective date, publishing the new policy, or providing in-app notice where appropriate.
